Thankful Thursday

Posting again this quote from Nicholson Baker (via Steal Like an Artist):

“If you ask yourself ‘What’s the best thing that happened today?’ it actually forces a certain kind of cheerful retrospection that pulls up from the recent past things to write about that you wouldn’t otherwise think about.” –Nicholson Baker

You find what you’re looking for. If you expect the worst, you’ll find it. If you seek miracles – even in the mundane – you will find them. Beauty in the ashes, even.

So I’ve been collecting moments of thanksgiving this week:
The teenage kid who, as he walked toward the intersection, noticed that I’d been waiting to turn against traffic and let me go during a break in cars rather than make me wait for him and then for more cars.
Teen spontaneously grabbing his Bible during dinnertime to share his favorite passage, Psalm 18:1-2 (it’s a good one!).
Two compliments: one woman told me I am beautiful, yet another told me that I inspire her. Wow!
Reading a new-to-us-both book with Tween, his selection but one I put on his bookshelf about a year ago.
Beautiful weather and a nice solitary walk.
Time to cook some yummy, healthy meals.
A regular appointment with an amazing group of women – laughter and honesty, challenge and encouragement.
Several new creative and life-giving projects: this blog, a “purge” (more on that soon), and a photo-a-day challenge for the month of October.

Go find some miracles!
